Our canine friend Casey, a delightful 8 month old German Shepherd / Rottweiler mix.

Today I started training with Casey – an 8 month old German Shepherd / Rottweiler mix. She was adopted about 2 month ago by a very nice family who are real animals lovers They also have a few cats and small animals that they have rescued.Casey had been at a *shelter since she was a little puppy. She never had a chance to play with other dogs during her stay at the shelter – when all she could do was look at the other dogs through the fences of her kennel.Today when Casey’s new Mom brought her to us she wasn’t sure if Casey would be good with anther dogs. She wasn’t sure about her ability to learn.It was a long day for Casey with a lot of new experiences. She played with other dogs, met new people, and started to learn the basics of dog training.
When Casey’s Mom arrived I had good news for her – Casey had been doing GREAT!

Casey was good with all the other dogs and very good at training.
It was very pleasant & easy to work with her!
It would be so good if all dog owners were as responsible & loving as Casey’s parents!

 *A shelter dog can be a delight or a disaster. Which it is depends largely on choosing the right dog to suit your own personality and that of your family. Fortunately, shelter dogs come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and temperaments. All you have to do is put some time and thought into finding one that will be exactly right for you.
Check list:
- Size
- Type of coat
- Male /Female
- Age
- Which breed?
- Energy levels
- How trainable
- How cuddly
- Good with children
- Good with other dogs
- Good with people
A dog’s temperament is more important than how it looks!
If you have your heart set on a purebred dog, read about its temperament traits in one or more of the various breed books available. Or go on the internet where you can find a lot of information about different breeds. Try www. AKC.org/
If you do not feel the temperament of one purebred is suited to your lifestyle then those dogs are not for you!
Crossbreeds and mongrels will have inherited a combination of genes – so you need to take extra care that the temperament from all breeds in mix will suit you!
Don’t forget cause to avoid dog behavior problems you need to learn how to train your canine friend.

Thank you for helping Casey so much and for teaching us a lot about caring for our new addition. Your suggestions about the toys i.e. making them all seem new and exciting again, by removing them at the end of the day, was very helpful. Your insight as to why Casey plays with reflections of light, helped us to understand these behaviors better. I was so worried about her the first day of school, i.e. would she get along well with others? You, and your staff, really put me at ease which has been greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
