Cruft Dog Show – 4 days in the wonderful world of dogs

Crufts is an annual international Championship conformation show for dogs organized and hosted by the Kennel Club (UK), which attracts competitors from all over the world. Crufts is held every March at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre) in Birmingham, England.

You can find out more about Crufts at http://www.crufts.org.uk/ In 1886, Cruft’s first dog show, billed as the “First Great Terrier Show”, had 57 classes and 600 entries. The first show named “Crufts”—”Cruft’s Greatest Dog Show”— was held at the Royal Agricultural Hall, Islington, in 1891. It was the first at which all breeds were invited to compete, with around 2,000 dogs and almost 2,500 entries.

Crufts is the largest annual dog show in the world, as declared by the Guinness Book of Records, and lasts four days.

Every year visitors enjoy the touching stories through the ‘Friends for Life’ competition celebrating our ‘dog heroes’, and have a chance to meet and thank the people who place abandoned or unwanted dogs through Breed Rescue centers.

With over 22,000 happy, healthy dogs enjoying the thrills and excitement of Best in Show with their owners, there’s no better place than Crufts to experience and learn about the wonderful world of dogs.

The KC -Founded on 4 April 1873, the club is the oldest of the world’s all-Breed kennel clubs. It is the governing body for dogs in the UK and its primary objective is ‘to promote in every way, the general improvement of dogs’. It was the first official registry of purebred dogs in the world. The KC is not part of the Federation Cynologique Internationale that most other countries kennel clubs belong to. The Kennel Club also holds the fun dog event “Discover Dogs”, in London every November. This event features the Scruffts grand final for crossbred and mixed breed dogs.
